Our church was organized on October 14, 1945. There were 116 charter members.
Our first full-time pastor was Rev. Luther Knight who served us from 1945-1948. Under his leadership, we were able to go from a wood building with a sawdust floor to a stone church building and parsonage.
Rev. Law M. Mobley served from 1948-1953. Renovations were completed while he was pastor.
Rev. Otis Homes pastored our church from 1953-1958. During this time the Mcknight Building was completed. We also purchased the property next to the parsonage.
Rev. Charles Thomas came to Calvary in March 1959. In May 1968 we called the first full-time Minister of Music and Youth; Stuart A. Thompson; Beattie Evans followed him in September of 1970.
Rev. Thomas was followed by Rev. Larry Davis in 1974. He was with us until 1978. During this time the parsonage was converted into office and Sunday School space, and the stone building was torn down and replaced by a paved parking lot.
From 1978-1986 Rev. George Turbeville was our pastor. During his pastorate Barry Wilson, Tim Metcalf, Steve Goddard, Bob Bean, Robin Keels, and Robert Davis served as part-time Ministers of Music and/or Youth.
In 1979 we completed a new sanctuary at a cost of $325,000.00. Work began in 1987 to convert the second floor of the McKnight Building into Sunday School space. Rev. David Tucker became our pastor for a few months before returning to service as a chaplain.
In March of 1988 Rev. Miller Murphy began his ministry that saw a debt retirement campaign entitled "A New Beginning." This paid for a new Rogers organ and renovations that we had completed. In 1988 we also called Bonnie Strange to be our Music Director, and she continued until 2005. In the spring of 1989, Beth McConnell was called as Minister of Education, Youth, and Activities. We also began a literacy program and volunteer efforts at South Kilbourne Elementary School. In 1991, Rev. Murphy left to begin a ministry at Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood, S.C.
After much searching, we called Rev. Laverne Hancock out of retirement as our pastor in 1992. Plans were made to remodel the sanctuary, and this was completed in 1993. Jeff Peckham served as Youth Minister from August 1993 until June of 1995. Kathy Peckham started children's church and that ministry continues today. Bert Shurler served as Youth Minister for part of 1996, and David Sturgeon, who had served in the summer of 1990, returned as Minister of Youth from May - September of 1997.
We called Rev. Steven Bouknight as Minister of Youth in 1997. After serving for four years as Youth Minister, Steven was called to be pastor in 2001. He served until 2005. Roger Allen was called as Minister of Youth in 2002. Kendra Joyner served as Children's Ministry Intern from June 2003-September 2005. Lee Butler was called as Youth Minister in 2004.
Rev. Richard E. Ryals accepted the call to be our pastor from November 2006 until his retirement June 2014. In 2011 Zachary Blankenship was called as Youth Minister, and served until 2015
Josh Helms was called as Youth Minister in November 2015 and served in that role until August 7th, 2019.
Rev. Bill Wright, was called as Interim Pastor in August 2016 and served until June of 2017
After a long and extensive search the church's Nehemiah Committee called. Rev. Jeffrey T. Scott and his wife Rita, who came to lead us on August 1st 2018, We are very excited for the future, and how God plans to use Calvary for his will.
On January 17th 2021 We Welcomed David Byrum as our new Youth Minister.
